Window Study

Media: Acrylic Paint

2020

The objective of this painting was to create a still life study using objects of various different textures. These include metals, the rough textures of the walnuts, the fabric and the plant. The still life is set up to focus on the objects in the room while showing a blurred and faint background.

I started out with the rough outline of the still life using acrylic paint.

My main goal in this painting was to study the metal accurately and study the reflections of the walnuts. It was important for me to capture the textures, as seen with the smooth metal against the rough walnuts.

The plant vase took many iterations, as seen below! I was having trouble with achieving the correct lighting, shadows and proportions.

I finalized the pot and moved onto completing the background. I added minimal details and faint colours for the background.

I did not like how dark the cast shadow was on the pot, thus I lightened it. There was slight texture on the pot which I attempted to add in. I realized I was not able to accurately achieve the texture and would require more practice for this.

The final piece!

I removed the texture and fixed up the shadow. After sharpening up the details on the fabric, walnuts and various highlights, the painting was complete!
