Cross Section of a Pomegranate

Media: PrismaColor Coloured Pencils & White Gel Ink Pen

Initial Drawing from life

2021

The objective of this illustration is to show the complexity of the pomegranate seeds when pomegranate is opened in half or from the top. The uncut pomegranate is to show the texture and colors of the skin of the fruit. The complexity of the thin skin in the interior of the fruit, interacting with the seeds is also studied and shown.

Tested out different combinations of colours for the thin skin. I took into account the different colours of the seeds which were underneath the skin.

Lots of colours were blended together for the exterior skin of the pomegranate. I made sure to take into account the orange + yellow colours which existed in the skin.

The seeds were one of the most important part of this illustration, thus I made sure to study how the light hits on the seed, depending on where the seed was in the fruit.

Greens, yellows and light browns were important for illustrating the interior part of the fruit around the seeds.

Before starting the final piece, I sketched out different points of view for the illustration.

Swatches of the colours used in this illustration.
